Great to read the underlying patriotism in this article and greater still that it is indeed a valid representation of how the majority of South Africans are feeling about the world cup. This infectious love for our beautiful land and excitement for the event is not only blatantly visible in SA but extends to many of our ex-pats all over the world! Currently staying in the States and was fortunate enough to see the opening game in New York. It was in a SA bar and to see the excitement, praat afrikaans, sing shozaloza and blow vuvuzelas while dancing in the streets with my countrymen was a mind-blowing experience that will remain with me! Only thing detracting from this microcosm of South Africa was the fact that I couldn't get an ice-cold Castle or Black Label!!

I am currently overseas and surely missing out on all the events. It was great reading this article and can agree with you very strongly about how little people outside Africa know about our beautiful country with all the fine wine and beautiful women.

Fantastic read. A link to this article was included in Andrew Harding's bbc blog. Let's hope that other journalists who have fed a constant stream of paranoia and negativity (Daily Mail I'm looking at you)have the humility to read this article and admit that they were wrong. Having lived in Botswana for numerous years I'm one of the fortunate ones to have witnessed first hand the warmth and joy of Southern Africa.

This is hilarious. I'm a South African living in London and absolutely everything you've written about the English media is correct. All we've heard for the past few months is how dangerous South Africa is and that's all anybody asks me about when I tell them where I'm from. There's so much more to our wonderful land and people need to go out there and experience it for themselves.

Fabulous article, could not be any better than this!!! Well thought and eloquently presented. Well done you hit the nail on the head. Only one thing more and that is; I hop the intended clients are familiar of the existence of this article. last night I saw a French TV (TF2)on the half time of the game Australia vs Germany, the French journalist viciously attacked and embarrassed South Africa on a very exaggerating crime statistics, probably the pains of the humiliation the springboks did to the French on the weekend is to much.
