It’s been a busy month for eMzantsi community-builders since the Carnival press launch on Heritage Day (see pictures at www.emzantsi.org.za from the Music/4WAY LIVE Fish Hoek links):
- Primary schools on our twinning programme have been practising their drumming and dance moves in joint outdoor rehearsals with the help of Red Zebra and Jungle Theatre.
- We launched the eMzantsi Talent agency to encourage professionalism amongst youth on the intercultural music programme and to enable local residents to book quality local acts for their functions over the season.
- Enthusiasm and attendance at the Fish Hoek music group held every Wed 5-7pm at Fish Hoek High School has exploded, and rehearsals with their peers from the Ocean View and Masiphumelele groups promise exciting future collaborations.
- Comedian Mark Sampson has been running weekly MC classes mentoring replacement hosts for the post-carnival stageshow, and Zimbabwean reggae artist Teba Shumba gave this month’s Masterclass to the intercultural music project.
- High school teams are joining the eMzantsi construction crew to learn to operate the Ubuntu puppets that will be telling the eMzantsi Carnival 2010 story ‘Step Up!’. The 4m tall Ubuntu puppets are so-called because it takes a team of people to work together to bring them to life.

SHARE, the Southside Help Advice and Resource Exchange for NGOs and other community-minded people, is meeting at the eMzantsi office at 1pm on Thurs 4th Nov to design an Open Space forum to explore their agenda for 2011. Everyone welcome.
