Background Information/Statement of Problem
1. Location
Kanana Football Club was established in Masiphumelele by residents of Kanana Street including street committee. It is named after the street in Masiphumelele Township where most of the club members reside. Masiphumelele means “Let’s Succeed” and is one of the underprivileged Townships of Cape Town situated on the south of CT.
Membership
We are currently 25 members with age ranging from 14 to 26 years old.
Most of us are students or unemployed youth. Some of us are non-South African residents.
Our Training
We are training from Monday To Thursday, except for Fridays and weekends, between 5 and 7:30 pm at the field in Fish Eagle Park on Kommetjie Rd.
2. Aims
It is precisely because of the challenges that we face in our township that our football club activities have great values and benefits in our community and society as a whole. Our township youth live in a place where, if you are not determined enough to achieve your goal, it is so easy to be drawn to criminal activities or a sense of hopelessness. We also experience a division between South African and non South African in Masiphumelele, that sometimes results in violence of xenophobic nature.
Our aims through our football club are:
To train hard and excel in our football game.
To unite our members and communities across different nations.
To keep youth away from criminal activities.
To develop healthy mind and body.
To participate in local tournaments.
3. Our Needs
Our immediate problem is a financial one. In order for us to participate in the local tournaments and beyond, we need to have the following items.
Kit x 14 ( Socks, Shorts and Jerseys ) R2500 (Mike’s Sports)
Balls x 2 R400 ( Mike’s Sports)
The total amount we need R2900
Please give us a chance to set up our football team. We would appreciate any form of support and encouragement.
Thank you so much for reading,
